Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
